IRC Chat Server switch, again

by flowmo at 3pm, October 24th, 2009 in Site News

The Emo Chat has moved again. WyldRyde.org shut down, so the new chat is #emo at irc.geekshed.net. If you use the web based chat from EB, you will automatically go to the new chat.

Emo music, is it overrated?

by catherinesidorenko at 1am, October 15th, 2009 in General

It seems that today emo music is overrated, because of bands like Hawthorne Heights and Bayside who sing needlessly about cutting and so on. Like my friend Nikc once told me “Screamo is a bunch of [people that dress completely black] with a gay haircut that covers an eye.” Nick is a metalhead so I guess his opinion doesn’t matter.

When I googled “emo quotes” I got the famous Adam and Andrew song, and many obnoxious things, but in the ones that were “trying not to be mean” I got:

Cut our wrists like cheap coupons and say that death was on sale today.
- Marylin Manson

I think emo music really has become overrated.

Emo Chat Room has Moved

by flowmo at 4pm, October 3rd, 2009 in Site News

The official IRC channel of Emo Bucket (Accessible here: http://www.emobucket.com/chat/) has been moved from #eb to #emobucket on irc.wyldryde.org. If you don’t know anything about IRC, than this will not effect you.

We have give only our existing moderators admin status on the new chat room, so things should be calmer there.

If your new to the site and want to meet other users, join the chat and talk to other emo kids! You should also post an introduction on our forums if you are new!

Flowmo and the Blog are back.

by flowmo at 2pm, October 3rd, 2009 in Site News

Hi guys, it’s been awhile since I have been active on EB. I had been really busy with work and didn’t feel like getting involved with everything that EB demands. But, alas, I am back.

I’m going to try to post on the blog regularly, since the blog has never actually successfully taken off I’d really like to see something happen with it.  If you are a good writer and really want to write for the blog, send me a message. My emobucket is flowmo. If you are over 18 there are opportunities to make money from the blog, and if you write great content it could be worth while.

Oh, hey, and the chat room is back. Were using a temporary chat room suggested by ZRC while I build something more unique for the site. I’d really like to see webcams and an easy to use interface for the next version of chat. If you go to the chat it is currently not moderated and we have little control over the content at the moment, so if you are new you might want to hang out in the chat for a few minutes to get an idea of how things are going and see if you want to talk :-) Don’t take anything there personally, mmkay?

If you need any help with the site or have any questions, post a comment here or on my profile, or you could message me.

Fixed the Quotes, but thanks!

by flowmo at 11am, June 24th, 2009 in Site News

Hey everyone.. I was updating some stuff on the site yesterday and I accidentally made all profile comment quotes go onto my profile.

I’ve fixed everything, but if you were having problems with the quotes it was my fault. The cool thing is I got a lot of comments out of everyone for a day and it made me look way more popular, so uhm.. thanks for that.

I’m also going to try to be around here more, with my day job and all the drama going on in my life right now it’s hard to dedicate time for side projects and stuff. You know.. gotta pay the bills :-(

A Confession.

You all remember The Face right? How he suddenly disappeared?Well, i have something to say. It is I, The Face. I decided to make a new account after i became too powerful. All these people at my feet and all i did was post my opinion. I decided i was too powerful and took refuge in a new account who would quickly rise through the ranks, Roylance. I know you don’t want to believe this, but i thought it has gone on too long. From tomorrow Im ditching my Roylance account and bringing back The Face. You probably will be confused as it is the same person posting, but do not fear, i’ll make the transition easy for you.I must say, i was surprised that i stayed as Roylance for so long. It became an addiction and i soon forgot about my old account. This Roylance character i had created  was simply amazing, people respected him, feared him.It was something i could never do as The Face.I’m sorry i fooled you all for so long, but remember it was never personal.-Syd (Aka; The Face)

Spread the love, without cash.

Saint Valentines day shouldn’t be about spending money, it should be about spending time.

How to be romantic without having to spend a lot of money:
-just be together
-go dancing, or ice skating
-have a picnic, by moonlight
-make a “mixtape” (cd, or playlist)
-go to a park, and play like little kids
-give a back massage, a nice long one
-give a foot massage (this is especially good if your sweetheart works)
-bake (muffins, cookies, cupcakes)
-stay at home and watch movies together

Just use your imagination, and not your wallet

People amuse me… A lot.

by KittensKill at 5am, December 27th, 2008 in General

Just reading through the comments of my I HATE EMO KIDS post… why would I be writing for Emo The Blog if I were a hater? Really, are people that stupid? I don’t think most people even understood what I meant. I was talking about the stereotype. I hate the stereotype that people try to conform to, and yet so many people took it personally. It proved my point even further, anyone who took offense or disagreed with me, that post was directed at you. Anyone who agreed with me is either a hater themselves, or actually understood what I meant.

This is the most important part of that post:

“I don’t hate you, I don’t hate the way you dress, and I don’t hate the music you listen to. What I do hate is the stereotype you’ve helped create. I hate the way YOU have helped to give emo a bad name.”

Why did so many people take offense to being told the truth?

Other people don’t really care about YOU. Everyone is out for themselves.

This is what I meant by Equality is Fiction. Everyone talks about how we should all be equals, I disagree.

You strive to be different, yet complain when you’re treated differently. How is that supposed to work?

If you don’t want to be treated differently (taking the bad with the good), then don’t try to be different.

And here’s something important to consider: having a differing opinion is not the same as hating.

Now to each of the comments (you do realize, don’t you, that you all made it one of the most commented on posts, 47 comments and counting)

DIY Chirstmas Gift #1: MP3-Player Case

by ReD at 9am, December 6th, 2008 in General

With the Holidays coming up and everyone suddenly becoming obsessed with showering others (and themselves)
in gifts, I figured it’d be a good time to finally post an entry after seven or more months of nothing-ness.

One of the main staples of the Scene/’Emo’ culture has been music, and its hard to find someone
today who dosn’t have a music player of some sort. So when I found this tutorial on a Hand-Made Ipod/MP3 Player Sheep Case, I realized I had to try it, or at least recommend it to others.

Hand-Made Ipod/MP3 Player Sheep Case

The tutorial assumes a basic knowledge of sewing, and uses an Ipod nano as the mp3 player base,
but I imagine you could edit it for other ipods. This tutorial will take some time depending on your skill in sewing.

Materials used throughout can be purchased at any basic craft store like Michaels, Joann Fabrics, AC More, Etc.

Things used:

  • Two Large Different-ColorFelt Sheets (in desired case cover)
  • Two smaller differnt-color felt sheets (for face and inner ears)
  • Sewing Supplies (thread, needle, etc)
  • Scissors
  • Fabric marker (for marking the felt to cut + for drawing Face)
  • Two Small beads (for eyes)
  • Objects for decor (optional, explained below)
  • Three-Four Eyelets (For cord-holes)
  • Snap Button or Hook (to close cover)
  • Leather/Other
  • Strong Fabric Strip (For necktie)
  • A day where you have nothing else to do and don’t mind getting frustrated (Optional)

Other: The tutorial lacks some important information, (such as the materials, which I listed above) and assumes a previous knowledge of basic sewing. Steps such as making and attatching the ears are not included, and such steps appear to be fairly easy. I may come back with my own pictures/descriptions for the missing steps.

None the less, the tutorial includes a step where you can add a decor (such as a lolipop, made out of three small peices of fabric and a tiny button). I would advise skipping this step if your pressed for time, or looking for something a little simpler. (Several craft-stores have buttons shaped in small figures; sewing or glueing one on might be more prudent.)

Added Steps:

Making the Ears: Using the same Color felt used for the front case, cut two circles slightly
bigger then you want the ears to be. Next, cut two circles slightly smaller then your previous ones
out of the material you want the inside of the ear to be. You can then either sew the two smaller circles into the big ones, or hot glue-gun it in.(I’d advise the latter for easy-ness and less stitching).

Next, fold the outer circles in half, putting pressure on the end you want to insert into the case, so the opposite side puffs open, giving a view of the inside of the ear. Glue/Sew shut the end that will be inserted. Repeat for other ear, remembering to squeeze the opposing side to make the opposite ear. (You don’t want a sheep with two right ears, now do you?) Sew into space that was left open during case assembly.

*If your ambitious in making this more realistic, cutting two slightly oval-ish shapes would probably be better. Circles just seemed simpler at the time.

Making The Face: Using a different color felt then for your cover, cut a heart-shape out. The ‘indent’ at the top of the heart should not be large, and the bottom should be rounded rather then pointy. (Unless your going for a more menacing looking sheep.) In the center of the heart (using a ruler would be useful), draw the sheeps nose and mouth. (Use the picture in the tutorial for an example, or make it an emow sheep and give it a frown.) Then, we’ll attatch the eyes. The eyes should be neither to close nor to far from the nose and outer side. If you (PRETEND) to cut the face into four quarters going through the center where the nose is, then the eyes should be in the center of the upper two quarters. Either draw the eyes on with the fabric pen, or gently glue two small beads in the desired eye color . (I’d advise super glue/industrial strength rather then hot for this part). Sewing is most likely an option as well, but you don’t want your sheeps eyes to bug out, and I’m not sure how to do so without that happening.
The face appears to be glued onto the cover as well, though if you wanted to stitch it on it’d probably be sturdier.

Alternative Ideas:

  • Change the Expression: Make it an emow sheep, a smiling sheep, a vampire sheep, etc.
  • Draw arms/legs: Right on the cover, either with a fabric pen, or by glueing on small oval-like
shapes in the same color fabric as the face. If you want to get more ambitious, you can draw on the hooves to the end of them. Works best with no decor.
  • Use Printed Felt: Some craft stores carry leapord print, striped, polka dotted, etc. I’d advise this for the case, and then use plain-colored for the face.
  • Make a different animal: With a few simple edits and some creativity, you can easiy change this into a cow, dog, cat, etc.
  • Final Ramblings:

If Anyone Makes This Tutorial or Edits it and Makes their own animal using this as a base, I’d love to see pictures. (I’d even post a link in this blog to it if you’d like, to give other people ideas). I plan on making an ‘albino black sheep’ sometime, but it probably wont happen until after the holidays.

More ‘Added Steps’ might be edited in as I think of them. The eyelets/buttons usually comes with instructions on the packets for doing so.
