Now, I’ve never claimed I’ve been emo, or even gothic or a preppie or any of the other useless little label our society seems to stick on us, but as I began to notice certain things that just struck me as strange from having certain friends falling into these catagories.
Please don’t take me the wrong way, in no way do I want to lower myself to the things I don’t like and claim that because my friends do it, everyone else must. No, far from it.
The terms I will be using here are just to get a general idea of the people i mean, and in no way do I condone everyone for it.
So one thing I noticed in the scene/emo and any other pop-culture (Punk / Goth / Hardcore / Etc) is that, quite
often, we are exactly the same as the people we hate so much. When they say the only person you truely hate is yourself,
they’re not that far from right if you really think about it.
How many of you have said something along the lines of “I Hate Preps! They all deserve to die because they
all judge me when they don’t even know me. -Insert deregoatory and/or swear words here”.
How ironic is that you claim they all judge you when you don’t even know them, but you just refused to go sit next to some girl you didn’t know because she wore a pink ambercronkie shirt and has a lot of make up on. Is that not the same thing as one of them coming over and refusing to sitting next to you, but replacing the words ‘preppie’ with emo?
It struck me as funny that people who complain about it so much are usually doing it just as much as they are.
Another thing that struck me as rather ironic was the fact that while Emo/scene people are generally noted for being pretty gloomy and depressed, a vast majority express feelings of resentment and distress at gloomy weather more then they do sunny weather.
Huh, so a bunch of gloomy people hate gloomy weather? It actually cracked me up, this playing on stereotypes, but I’m not sure if it was actually funny or if it was because I was very tired and felt like I was going to throw up.
Hm.. Ironic really.
