Hot Topic misses…

Oh yes, we all love Hot Topic, sandwiched between an Abercrombie and a Hollister, they are our shining light, our only glimmer of hope, in a mall filled with preppy and self-indulgent clothes, but the fact that they are the ubiquitous symbol of scene fashion, doesn’t mean that they haven’t had their misses…

The gold phase:

Just last season someone over at our favorite retailer decided that the words “goth” “emo” and “indie” translated as “gold” “hip hop” and “gangster” and not even our impulse to love all things shiny could save these travesties of fashion:

An ever enduring staple of Hot Topic is the never ending supply of t-shirts with limitless appeal to those who wish to make themselves as stupid as possible, through (not so) funny text:

Patterns that make your eyes tickle (and by tickle we mean bleed):

In an attempt to make a garment visually appealing Hot Topic decided to ignore all of those stupid things that “graphic design” tells you about not making something ugly, no, they wanted to be rebellious, and nothing says “I’m a rebel” like hideous:

Beanie Me, go on DO IT!

After having monumental success with cadet hats a few seasons ago, Hot Topic decided to top themselves by…wait for it…discontinuing all of their best selling hats and hair accessories, and selling only…beanies…

    Gold? I’m not so sure. Kinda loses it’s appeal.

    the shirts: Been there, seen that. People love thinking those shirts help them. It’s in fact a mine field screaming “AVOID ME!”

    Beanies only: Damn. It better not be like this in EVERY hot topic now.

    Naruto: Words are indeed useless. And so is whoever wears that.

    the rest though, i gotta agree, are total misses
    some of the stuff there makes me wonder how it gets sold

    To Orion: Ugh to me gold never had an appeal. I’ve always wondered why people think that about those shirts too… And their new seasons collection gets back to it’s roots with new cadet hats (they look pretty awesome btw.) And Thank You, I’m glad you liked it. ^-^

    To mel mixedtape: How much was it? They are going now for dirt cheep (though I would never buy one.) And yea me too, I just don’t get it, it all ends up on the clearance rack; how they do it repeatedly is beyond me.

    To Ashr: it was $11 i think, but i had a discount thing so it came out to about $7

    Another major miss on Hot Topic’s part: They stocked up majorly on Harry Potter tee shirts…and none of them got sold. If you go to the clearance rack at Hot Topic, there are a ton of unsold Harry Potter tee’s that have been there for 8 months now.
