Emo Love: Introduction

by Ashr at 8pm, April 15th, 2008 in General

Recently the planets aligned, a white bunnie crossed my path, and I found a beautiful, caring, (and emo,) girlfriend that I can call my very own. I have no idea how this could have happened, it should have been impossible but oh well, I’m not complaining…

So, in response to the cosmic forces at work I have decided to take inspiration from my newfound experiences and write a series of pieces on emo love. I plan to write a trilogy to be released one at a time over the next week or two, so say tuned and brace yourself for all of the spine tingling, earth shattering, and heart breaking analysis of how love develops between two emos.

(oh and don’t worry I won’t subject you to stories about my love life, I’m too emo to be that mean.)

Update: I know I did say that I would post my series in a couple weeks, but I did not realize how much my AP exams would ruin my free time, I promise promise PROMISE I will get them out as soon as I can. *sincerity*

The Emo/Scene Season is Over

by ReD at 4pm, April 12th, 2008 in General

Warning: This post contains stereotyping of the word ‘Emo’. I’d advise reading ‘The difference between Scene and Emo’
to further your knowledge rather then taking what is being said here seriously.

Alas, I must partake of you all in sending such horribly dismal news.
Now, if You understood that, good for you. If not, you should probably pay more attention in English Class.
It seems to me that the emo/scene ’season’ is over. Sort of.
I mean, seriously, what time of the year is more Emo then winter?
Lets take a look at what makes winter the perfect emo and scene season!

  • The world is icy and cold for some time, just like our hearts.
  • Hoodies and scarves are much more readily avilable in stores.
  • The clothing shades for winter seasons are usualy greys, whites, and blacks.
  • Its dark most of the day, limiting your intake of the dreaded sunlight.
  • The trees are empty and bear, deviod of all colors save for darks.
  • Fingerless gloves, striped leggings, and long coats start to look like a good idea to everyone

This makes it very easy to see why winter is a perfect season for most emo types. I mean seriously.
You can wear you skinny jeans and five shirts and a hoodie and fingerless gloves and be perfectly cozy and comfortable,
but no, heaven forbid the skorching sun shall come down and rain its deadly rays of…LIGHT upon us and make us sweltering hot
so the eyeliner melts right off her faces….
No. Winter is the perfect emo season.

Keeping the bucket safe

by flowmo at 6pm, April 7th, 2008 in General

It seems like the bucket is getting invaded every week by WoW clans and other weirdos with nothing better to do. We have an enormous number of visitors to the site daily, and everyone knows their are going to be the bad apples coming through.

As the bucket grows, we always find a new way to ensure that everyone is staying safe. This is why we have the rule against sharing personal information here ( such as phone numbers and addresses).

Today, were launching a new reporting system. You will now find report links through out the site such as on users profiles, under forum postings, and in private messages.

When you send us a report, a moderator will review it and decide what action to take. If you report a private message, a copy of the message will be sent to an administrator to review. We have made it easy for you to make these reports, and hope users will frequently use the reporting system.

We are still working on topic reports, image reports, and just general reports. These should be done by the end of the week.

This will help keep the bucket safe, and if you have any other ideas for how we can keep our members safe, feel free to post a comment letting us know!

5 things every scene kid needs

by flowmo at 9am, April 6th, 2008 in Lists

What are the 5 things every emo scene kid needs and should not be able to live without? (excluding an emobucket account of course)

1.) Vinyl Records
How can you call yourself emo and not own at very least 1 vinyl record? Listening to 80’s and 90’s emo, or any old school vinyls is totally scene. Their usually cheaper than cd’s, and you can be guaranteed that most of your friends can’t say they spent last night listening to Falling Forward - Hand me Down, on vinyl… I can hear it now - “that kid is so scene, he has like fity vinyls”

2.) 3000 friends on a social networking site
Whether it is Myspace, hi5, friendster, or emobucket, every true scene kid needs a high friend count. It doesn’t matter if 500 of your friends are bands you have never listened to, or cute girls you’ve never talked to, all that matters is that you have more friends than anyone you know. Duh.

3.) Flair
Okay, I have to admit I’m sitting here watching “Office Space”. If you have seen this movie, you know what I’m talking about.

Anyways, every scene kid needs some flair. Pins on your backpack, stickers, bracelets, scarves, tattoos, piercings, whatever you like. Flair is scene, and if you want to be a true scene kid, you better have some awesome flair. I could say accessories, but flair just sounds so much better. If you’ve never seen office space, and you have worked in an office, go watch it now.. Mmm kay..

4.) Ipod
Music on the go. The white head phones. It’s a commodity if your 50, but if your scene, it’s a necessity.

5.) A Shoulder to cry on
Every emo/scene kid needs a should to cry on from time to time (or more than not). Do an emo kid a favor today and let them cry on your shoulder.

Don’t have a shoulder to cry on? Get a blog. Tell the world about your new CD, haircut, or why your life sucks today as it did yesterday and will tomorrow. Whatever you do with it, it’s emo to pour your heart out over a keyboard. Though, posting on the forums or a blog just doesn’t do it like the real thing (crying on a shoulder).

Well.. That’s it ladies. Having everything on this list won’t make you emo, and you probably don’t need any of this.

Why people hate emo scene kids

by flowmo at 3pm, April 4th, 2008 in General

Let’s face it. Most people have something against emo scene kids. But why? Why does the term emo make some people angry?

Recently the news was talking about how emo kids were (yes, despite my previous post I will, for simplicity, still use the term incorrectly, especially when quoting the news) facing a lot of hate crimes in Mexico and were protesting the brutality. Less importantly, the Emo Bucket is frequently “invaded” by “emo bashers” who join in large numbers and attack the forums by posting dirty images and porn (which is a really funny word, btw).

The last time we were invaded, the reason we were given is that we are getting “too big”, as if this sites growth is hurting anyone. Are they afraid that we are going to get over 100k members, or even over 1 million members, and become a cult bent on destroying humanity?

As the admin here, I get a lot of hate mail from bashers. When I ask people what they have against scene kids, almost always they include “guys wearing tight pants” in their excuses. Maybe they are scared of people who wear tight pants and don’t stuff?

So. From all I have learned the last few years, the only reason I can give for people hating scene kids, is the guys wear tight pants.

Weak.

Emo Kids vs Scene Kids (Proper use of emo and scene)

by flowmo at 3pm, April 4th, 2008 in General

A lot of people seem to be confused between the usage of ”Emo” and “Scene“. There’s been a lot of argument over this on the forums since the bucket was created, so I figured I should post about this on the blog.

Everyone can agree that emo is a genre of music, I hope. So, knowing that emo describes a genre of music, just as Rock or rap does, it really does not make sense to call someone a genre. For example, you would refer to someone who looked like they listened to rock music by say “Omg that guys looks rock”, and you would not describe every gangster looking person you saw as “totally rap”. So it really does not make sense when people say “he is really emo”. Emo is easier to use to label someone than rock, though, just because it has been used that way for so long, but unless you want to sound stupid you should probably use scene when talking to scene kids.

“Scene” is the word used to properly describe someone as “emo”. Scene refers to the fashion, hair, and other staples of the emo sub-culture. Using this term will make you look smarter and more in touch with the culture, rather than looking like an idiot like I said above. Again, no one can blam anyone for this as the news and media has used the genre’s name incorrectly for so long that it just sounds right.

So next time you look at someone who looks “emo”, maybe you should say they look “scene”.. Or face certain death. Okay. Maybe not death.

Emo Bucket becomes Prep Bucket

by flowmo at 8pm, April 1st, 2008 in General

Emo Aprils Fools JokeAtleast, it did for a day. April Fools Day is over, and Prep Bucket is once again Emo Bucket. In case some of you didn’t catch on fast enough, we are NOT becoming a website for preppy people. It was a joke.

If you missed it, a notice was posted on the homepage informing users that we were switching to a website for preppy people, and would be changing our name to the Prep Bucket. We also displayed our new, preppier logo.

You might have also noticed we blocked everyone from mentioning April Fools and replaced it with “Biscuit Eating Monkey Day”.. Sorry for teh confuzionz :-)

New discussion forum

by flowmo at 1pm, March 11th, 2008 in Site News

We have added a new forum for Serious Discussions. A lot of members were upset that there was not a forum dedicated to discussing serious and controversial issues, so we have now made it possible for you to discuss things such as current events, politics, religion, and other topics not appropriate for the general forums or the dedicated emo forum.

Were still looking at more forums in the near future so feel free to post up other suggestions here or on the forum.

Project Pink

by flowmo at 11am, March 8th, 2008 in General

Since the Emo Bucket has been growing at a lage rate, some of the newer members may be emo bashers or just rude. This makes us all look really bad so Ashr has decided to start Project Pink.

“Project Pink is an attempt to make Emobucket a more friendly and welcoming community”

If your friendly and want to be pink, go check out Project Pink on the forums :-)

New layout - New Stuff

by flowmo at 6pm, March 4th, 2008 in Site News

The new layout has been launched on the bucket, but there have been some major delays of some of the new features. Were having a couple issues right now that require us to rewrite a majority of the back end code here, which is delaying the launch of things such as the profile layout editor.

One of the biggest problems we have had is that the bucket is growing so quickly, the code originally used is becoming outdated and the server/backend code just couldn’t handle the current increase in users. Were finishing up and everything seems to be running MUCH faster.

We also have an issue with certain pictures from a section of the gallery that are not displaying. Were working hard on fixing this and the occasional upload errors.

Were still here working hard, even though we might not be active in the community :-)
